Knit a Caterpillar!
Got this preview from Interweave the other day - LOVE the ruffly knitting. Not that I'm into ruffles in a girlie kind of way - but because I love texture, and the resulting caterpillar-like look (and presumably) feel of the resulting fabric is irresistable!
The net-like yarn is Trendsetter's Flamenco, and the tape-with-boxes yarn is (I think) Cha-Cha. The Trendsetter site has a lot of interesting yarns: ribbons, tapes, yarns with attachments, thick-n-thin ... all yummy & inspirinG! Check it out!

Crochet a Yurt! You go, girl!
Crocheting brings to mind simple craft projects – a hat, scarf or some woolly winter mittens. Kate Pokorny has something much much bigger planned: a whole mobile mini-home, hand-crocheted from 500 pounds of local New Hampshire lambswool.

Funky Yarns, Funky Song ...
Been reading a bit about Art Yarns .. which led me to Jacey Boggs' site, Insubordiknit. Very fun and inspiring - taps into my "yarn as an end in itself" mindset. Much to read and learn ... will keep you posted.

EXPERIMENT: Crocheted Baler Twine
So - I live on a (hobby) farm, populated by my aging herd of fibre goats and a wide variety of rescue animals.
Every day, I cut the twine on 3+ bales of hay ... and yesterday I looked at the resulting twine (which I usually toss) and wondered whether I could knit or crochet it into something useful and attractive.
My first stab was in crochet - using my Big Honking Hook (BHH) - unknown gauge - but shown below with a pencil to compare.
This swatch is about 8 x 4 inches. In single crochet, the result was the curly bit of "fabric" shown below. The machine-tied knots are an issue, and it's hard to make fast (i.e., tight) knots to join pieces. Not a thing of beauty.
Will try knitting it next - with jumbo needles - in the hopes of getting something flatter & mesh-ier.
